2010 Day of the Dead Parade Information

WHEN: Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010.

Friends and family are welcome to participate in the parade with us. If you want help carrying your print, or just friends beside you that’s great. We can always use extra people to help out.

5:00- 5:30 pm.
Meet downtown behind the train (Near the 3 Red X’s)
BRING YOUR PRINT WITH YOU !!!!!!!
Assemble your stanchion and attach your print.
Tools will be put away at 5:30!!!!!!!!!
Arriving after that time, means you will not be part of the parade.

WE WILL BE LEADING THE PARADE THIS YEAR!!!!
SO WE MUST BE LINED UP AND READY TO GO BY 5:45 PM.

6:00 pm.
Parade Starts PROMPLY AT 6:00

6:30
Parade ends in Caras Park.
Take off your print, take off the hose clamps and return to Jim.
Carefully stack your PVC pipes in the back of the truck.

10th Annual Steamroller Print Project/Missoula's Day of the Dead

Save the date: Wednesday, October 27th, 10-4, in front of the University Theatre. 2010 will be our tenth anniversary, and we plan to do it up big.

This year the UM Printmakers will be leading the Annual Missoula Day of the Dead Parade.
The Parade is on Tuesday, November 2nd.
We will be lining up at 5:30 and the parade will begin at 6:00 pm. at the North end of Higgins Avenue by the X's.

Wednesday, October 27, 10am-4pm 10th Annual UM Art Department Steamroller Print Project in front of University Theatre, UM Campus Come and join university students, artists from the community and students from neighboring elementary, middle schools and high schools create works and printing large scale 4’x 8’ woodcut prints, which will be featured in the Festival of the Dead parade. Sunday, October 31, 2-5pm Festival of the Dead Shrine Exhibit and silent auction fundraiser for Festival of the Dead--come see shrines created by Missoulians--at the Florence Lobby (111 N. Higgins) from 2-5pm on Sunday, October 31.

Anyone interested in making a shrine to exhibit (and possibly win cash or gift certificate prize:)...get going! Prizes will be given in the following categories: 1) shrines commemorating cultures affected by natural disaster (e.g. Haiti, Pakistan, China, etc.); 2) shrines that best represent the cultural traditions of the Mexican Day of the Dead; 3) shrine memorials to fallen soldiers. Monday, November 1, 3:30-6:00p VSA Montana Summit and Community Home Based Services offer a mask-making and costume-making event, with an opportunity to visit the Clements Rd. Maze with people with disabilities at Target Range School's Multipurpose Room. Contact Alayne at VSA Montana 549-2984.

Tuesday, November 2
10am-6pm: Missoula Mandala Project at Caras Park--come help create a large, dyed-sawdust mosaic.
5:15pm: Pre-parade performances at Circle Square include:
Hypsy Gypsies and UM Dancers
6:00pm: Festival of the Dead Parade starts at Circle Square participants should line up on East Alder St. (next to the old locomotive) starting at 5:15pm and be in place at 5:45pm! Parade highlights include: UM Printmakers Steamroller Prints, “New Visions” dance class, UM dancers doing a Michael Jackson tribute led by Zombie Jayann Chipman, and ?????
6:45ishpm: Post-parade performances at Caras Park include: UM African Dance Class and Unity Dance and Drum

Wednesday, November 3 NOON mandala silent clean-up/washing away at Caras.
